What began as a small guesthouse in the Austrian Alps has grown into Familux Resorts – the world’s first and only premium hotel group dedicated exclusively to families with children. Still family-owned and led with heart: today, brothers Julian and Florian Mayer carry the vision forward.
The vision
A family business, built for familieIn 1988, Ernst and Andrea Mayer took over a modest bed and breakfast in the village of Lermoos. Their dream? To create a place where children could explore freely and parents could truly unwind – without compromising on quality, comfort or style. The small guesthouse became a resort. The resort became a brand. And the vision grew into a promise that holds to this day: Bring your kids, find yourself.
From one generation to the next
A childhood shaped by hospitalityJulian and Florian Mayer grew up greeting guests in the dining room, playing in hotel hallways, and watching their parents build something special. After studying and working abroad, they returned home to take the reins of the family business. Since 2021, they’ve been at the helm of Familux Resorts. Now fathers themselves, they understand better than ever what families really need on holiday: space, comfort, connection – and a sense that everyone, from baby to grandparent, is truly welcome.
Creating a space where the colorful world of childhood meets the quiet wishes of grown-ups – that’s what drives us. In each resort, we focus on thoughtful design, warm details and smart, family-first concepts.

Austria, Germany – and beyond
Where Familux stands todayOur group now includes four award-winning resorts in Austria and Germany: the original Alpenrose, the Dachsteinkönig in the Salzkammergut region, Oberjoch in Bavaria, and the newest property, The Grand Green, opened in 2022 in the Thuringian Forest. For those drawn to the sea, the Familux Yachts in Croatia offer a one-of-a-kind family getaway on the water. Across all properties, more than 670 dedicated team members ensure every family enjoys moments they’ll always remember.

Growing with purposeGrowth is part of who we are – but never at the expense of what matters most. New resorts are already in the works, including destinations along the Baltic Sea and in the Dolomites. Through it all, our purpose remains the same: to put families first.
